Choosing a provider: a short checklist
- Ask for the company's legal name and, where the trade is licensed in California, its license number, then verify it with the state licensing board yourself.
- Ask for a written estimate before work starts, and ask what is and isn't included.
- Ask about guarantees or warranties in writing.
- Never pay the full amount in cash up front.
